Construction Phase

The project entailed a complete overhaul of the existing landscape. The home itself is a new construction. The
home builder installed the minimum amount of landscaping to appease local building codes. Upon site inspection
and soil analysis we determined that soil compaction and quality was our first concern. We removed all
the existing plant material and staged them to be replanted. We broke up the soil with our mini skid steer and
installed compost to improve the soil quality. We added soil amendments and tilled everything to establish a
proper planting environment.

We worked closely with the masonry team, carpenters and electricians to ensure all phases of the landscaping
were executed according to our plans.

Completed Project

We worked closely with the homeowner to design and develop a landscape that fulfilled all of her outdoor needs.
The plant selection is based on a formal, more traditional aesthetic. However, we provide bursts of color and seasonal
interest by planting perennial flowers, flowering trees and shrubs, and annual flowers.

Front yard: The focus in the front yard is the planting. The driveway and walkways had already been built. We
designed a landscape that complimented the stateliness of the home. The result was formal landscape that combines
the use of boxwood hedging complimented by flowering trees and shrubs. Every season of the year will be
represented as the landscape transitions.

Backyard: Privacy was obtained in the backyard by installing evergreen shrubs. Although privacy was our first
concern we combined plant varieties for added interest. Boxwoods, hollies, hydrangeas, roses, and perennial
flowers were installed to enhance the hardscaping. The hardscape was vastly improved as well. The patio was
expanded to allow for entertaining larger groups. An outdoor kitchen and fireplace makes it an extremely inviting
space. During the landscape installation we added a fountain to further enhance the outdoor experience. The
fountain is not only inviting to birds but it provides a tranquil background sound for those enjoying the nearby
kitchen.

Now that we established a “garden style,” it was time to determine how the homeowner planned on using the space. We knew they wanted to maintain grass space for soccer games. The challenge was to figure out how to reclaim a side yard that was neglected and underutilized.

Our solution for the side yard was to draw your eye to the area with the use of classic pergola. Not only does it invite you in, but it also picks up the trim color from the house. Upon entering, you can’t help from being drawn further into the yard by a colorful Crepe Myrtle planted directly in your view. The front yard features plants that will thrive in the shady conditions provided by the tall Sycamore tree planted along the street. Evergreens provided year round interest, whereas hydranageas and perennial flowers give us a burst of color.

In the backyard, the patio area becomes the focal point, and the surrounding plantings will provide year round privacy. Flowering shrubs and flowers make it a very welcoming and relaxing place to sit and enjoy.
